Abigail
Her story is found in 1 Samuel 25.
A story not often told, but rich in lessons. An entire chapter of 1 Samuel is devoted to Abigail's story, so there much we can learn from it. Her first husband, Nabal, seemed only to be attracted to her beauty. Yet Abigail used her intelligence to help manage Nabal's wealth and keep him out of trouble. Certainly she made the best of her circumstances. Even when the situation became very difficult, even dangerous, she used good judgment and took quick, decisive action. How bold it was for her to gather supplies and go out to meet David and his army.
David recognized Abigail as a special woman, one who would take extraordinary steps to make peace. He even compliments her good judgment. It is not too big a stretch to assume that he was attracted to that good judgment and her intelligence.
At the end of the story, we see Abigail seeming to "ride off into the sunset" to marry the future kind of Israel. We can certainly surmise that she was a wonderful partner for David, and that he was wise enough to seek her counsel on occasion. But we also know that it wasn't all a bed of roses.
We learn from Abigail that beauty is more about how we behave than how we look.
